A GRAND OPENING CEREMONY IN SAHODAYA SCHOOLS ATHLETIC MEET (U-19) BOYS & GIRLS (2023-24) AT SAINIK SCHOOL NAGROTA (October 26, 2023)
The prestigious Jammu Sahodaya Schools Athletic Meet (U-19) Boys & Girls 2023-24 officially commenced with a spectacular opening ceremony hosted by Sainik School Nagrota. This three-day sporting extravaganza is taking place from October 26 to October 28, 2023, at Maj Somnath Sharma PVC Stadium, and promises to be an exceptional showcase of young athletic talent.
The opening ceremony was graced by the presence of Mr. Rajesh Rathore, President of Jammu Sahodaya Schools Complex (JSSC) and Principal of JK Public School, Kunjwani, Jammu, as the Chief Guest. Accompanying him were the Guests of Honour: Dr. Vijay Puri, Academic Director of Shemford Futuristic School, Jammu; Dr. KCS Mehta, Principal of IDPS, Akhnoor; and Mr. KL Dogra, Principal of MV International School, Vijaypur. The opening ceremony was marked by the warm welcome extended by Capt (IN) AK Desai, the Principal of Sainik School Nagrota, to the esteemed guests and participants. A colourful and inspiring march past was led by Cadet Arush Verma, the School Cadet Captain, setting the tone for the spirited competition ahead. The lighting of the torch added a symbolic touch to the occasion, signifying the commencement of the games. Cadet Hardik Pandey, the School Sports Captain, administered the oath, emphasizing the spirit of fair play and respect for fellow competitors.
This year's edition of the Jammu Sahodaya Schools Athletic Meet has brought together approximately 400 athletes from 20 CBSE-affiliated schools within the Jammu Sahodaya Schools Complex. These young athletes will compete in various track and field events, showcasing their dedication, skill, and sportsmanship. Sainik School Nagrota, the host institution, enters the competition as the reigning champions. Their success in the previous edition of this meet, which was also hosted by Sainik School Nagrota in 2019, has set the bar high for the competing schools. The first day's events featured a series of exciting heats and finals. The track events included 200m, 400m, and 4x100m relay for girls, as well as the 800m and 3000m run finals for girls. On the field, athletes competed in Long Jump, Shot Put, Discus Throw, and the 5000m run final for boys. Cadet Angel Choudhary of Sainik School Nagrota won gold in 3000 m run and Long Jump events for girls. Miss Feeze ul Nisa of Doon International School stood second and Miss Ridhampreet Kour of Unique International Public School stood Third. Cadet Peavel Rani won silver in Long Jump. In 800m run for girls, Cadet Nema Kunzes of Sainik School Nagrota clinched Gold and Cadet Stanzin Kunsal won Silver. In Shot Put event for Girls, Miss Vomika Sharma of JK Public School bagged Gold. The 200m run for Girls ended with Cadet Kriti Sharma winning Gold and Cadet Gouri Priya bagging Silver medal.
In Boys category, Cadets Harshdeep and Hardik Pandey of the host school opened the medal tally with Gold and Silver in Long Jump. Bronze was bagged by Master Digvijay Singh of JK Public School The highlight of the first day was school record breaking timings clocked by both Cadet Vibhum Pandey (14:35:75) and Cadet Harshit (15:41:38) in 5000m run fetching Gold and Silver for Sainik School Nagrota while Master Dev Singh Jamwal of IDPS Akhnoor stood Third. In Triple Jump for Boys, Cadet Ikhlaq Hassan brought Gold for the host school while Cadet Ankit finished second with Silver. In Shot Put for Boys, JK Public School dominated as Master Saksham Gupta and Master Faizal Akbar won Gold and Silver respectively. Cadet Nikunj Pratap Singh had to be content with Bronze. Discus Throw witnessed Cadet Upkar Shukla lifting Gold, Master Saksham Gupta Silver and Cadet Sarthak Kumar Shukla Bronze. The second day of the Jammu Sahodaya Schools Athletic Meet (U-19) Boys & Girls 2023-24, hosted by Sainik School Nagrota, witnessed another exceptional display of athletic prowess as the host school continued to dominate the competition, securing a multitude of medals and breaking school records. In the Boys' category, Cadet Raghav Chib and Cadet Amrit Raj showcased their exceptional talent by surpassing the School record in the 3000m run. Cadet Raghav Chib achieved a remarkable time of 9:18:44, while Cadet Amrit Raj clocked an impressive 9:46:43. These outstanding performances not only earned them accolades but also set a new standard for excellence in the school's athletic history of the School. In the 1500m run, Cadet Vibum Pandey and Cadet Harshit continued to bring glory to the host school. Cadet Vibum Pandey secured the Gold medal, while Cadet Harshit claimed the Silver. In the Girls' category, the athletes of Sainik School Nagrota proved their mettle once again. In the 1500m run, Cadet Stanzin Kunsal emerged victorious, securing the Gold medal, while Cadet Anwesha claimed the Silver. Miss Deepika Manhas of APS Damana displayed remarkable performance and secured the Bronze medal. The 400m Girls' race witnessed an outstanding performance by Cadet Angel Choudhary, who bagged the Gold medal. Cadet Rishita Singh gave a tough competition and clinched the Silver, while Miss Kusuma of APS Nagrota exhibited a commendable effort to secure the Bronze. In the 200m run, Cadet Kriti Sharma demonstrated her speed and agility, winning the Gold medal for the host school. Cadet Gouri Priya displayed her excellence by securing the Silver medal, while Miss Nishita Kumari of APS Nagrota proudly took home the Bronze. Mr Sanjeev Kumar, School No.2980 of 2005-12 batch of the School, who is currently posted as Civil Judge at District Bettiah of Bihar presented medals and certificates to the winners of the day’s events and congratulated them for their excellent display of sportsmanship. The Jammu Sahodaya Schools Athletic Meet (U-19) Boys & Girls 2023-24 culminated on a high note with a thrilling third and final day of intense competition. Chief Guest Brig (Dr) Vijay Sagar Dheman (Retd), a proud alumnus of Sainik School Nagrota, presided over the event and presented medals and certificates to the outstanding young athletes who gave their best in various track and field events. Dr Pramod Srivastav, Advisor and Ex President, JSSC, Principal, Model Academy, Jammu and Dr KCS Mehta, Principal, International Delhi Public School, Akhnoor graced the Closing Ceremony as the Guests of Honour. The final day of the athletic meet featured exhilarating competitions, including the 4x100m relay finals for Boys and Girls, the 200m Run finals for Boys, the 800m Run finals for Boys, the 100m Run finals for Boys and Girls, and the 4x400m relay finals for Boys. These events brought forth exemplary displays of athleticism and determination from the participants.
In the Boys Category, Sainik School Nagrota emerged as the Champions, scoring 143 points, with an overall tally that left their competitors in awe. JK Public School Kunjwani, Jammu secured their position as the Runners-up with an tally of 32 points way behind the winners. Cadet Ikhlaq Hassan of the host school was declared Best Athlete for winning 5 Gold medals viz 100m Run, 400m Run, Triple Jump, 4x100m Relay and 4x400m Relay. In the Girls Category, it was a triumph once again for Sainik School Nagrota, who were crowned Champions with an astounding tally of 101 points. The competition was fierce, and Stephens International Public School, Jammu finished as Runners-up, earning with 33 points. Among Girls Cadet Angel Choudhary of Sainik School Nagrota received the Best Athlete Trophy for standing first in 400m Run, 3000m Run, Long Jump, 4x100m Relay and 4x400m Relay. The three-day gala sports meet came to a befitting closure with a spectacular display by the School Band and an inspiring March Past.
